Our School

Presently Kaitoke School runs two classrooms and we are fortunate to inherit spaces which are currently used as a library, resource room , multi purpose room and kitchenette . Our school grounds are huge reflecting the intention of developing the school site into an Area School for Great Barrier Island.

We continue with The Great Barrier Island Wharf 2 Wharf Barry Mouat Memorial Marathon as our major fundraiser allowing us to participate in various Mainland experiences and to enable us to have modern facilities and specialist teaching where needed.

The staffing is stable at the moment and we always have generous community support.

In this year of our thirtieth birthday we have ‘Tiger Turfed’ our netball court. Much of the funding was given to us by our local Board emphasising the cooperation between the Barrier Community and our school.

Our School

We have 48 Solar Panels, 24 Large Storage Batteries and 2 large Generators powering the school, Playcentre and two School houses . A bus service is provided for the Medlands area and for the Okupu and Awana Areas.

We continue our close association with Great Barrier Island’s other two schools Okiwi and Mulberry Grove and the community through events such as Matariki, dune planting, art work displays at the local Gallery, Christmas Parades etc, We are also blessed with a number of clubs for the students including surfing, kayaking water safety and sailing and Art clubs. Visitors to the school in the past have ranged from Olympians, All Blacks, Prime Ministers, to Black Ferns and authors.

We are an innovative, friendly school with support from a caring Board Of Trustees and excellent staff.
